Project Goals:

  • Immediately connect via fiber 19 county offices of education sites, 14 community college sites, 3 CSU universities, 20 county/main libraries, and 7 public safety sites as anchor institutions to this new network infrastructure that will connect to CENIC's existing statewide fiber-based backbone and beyond to the worldwide Internet;

  • Expand CVIN's fiber-based infrastructure and wireless capabilities to facilitate the ability of the other anchor-related institutions in the community including school sites, healthcare facilities, community-based organizations, and public safety entities, to enhance their existing high speed networking capability;

  • Enable CVIN and other providers to use the new network infrastructure to facilitate businesses, residences and government agencies to have access to high speed networking capacity;

  • CVIN will work with existing local internet providers enabling them to connect their business and resident customers to Internet services at more reasonable costs, one of the largest broadband adoption obstacles faced by most rural or underserved communities; and,

  • Enhance the ability to reach the economic development goals of the 18 counties by having the required network capacity available for new businesses that might locate in these counties.

Wireless Back-Haul

Cellular applications such and video, audio, and mapping services require increasing Internet bandwidth. Cellular providers across the globe are upgrading the facilities to cell towers to fiber in order to meet this growing demand. CVIN's network will allow providers access to high speed broadband services which in turn will improve the speed and reliability of the cellular service to those residing in these rural areas. There are an estimated 350 cell towers in the region that could benefit from the increased bandwidth and network capacity that this project will deliver.
Bandwidth

Last Mile providers throughout the 18 counties will have access to affordable Internet bandwidth. The improved access will help to provide faster connections are reasonable prices to 1,500,000 households throughout the Valley.

Wireless Broadband

Last mile wireless broadband services will be available in the coming months for Fresno, Kings, Kern, and Tulare Counties. Over 13,000 unserved or underserved households and 1,200 businesses will have access to high speed broadband services.

Data Services There are nearly 60,000 businesses within 1 mile of the proposed fiber route, and 45,000 within a ½ mile of the route. These business can benefit from high speed, reliable, and affordable Broadband services. In addition to providing broadband, CVIN will offer a variety of other services such as off-site backup, networking, and other telecommunication services.
Inter-office Connectivity Many businesses will benefit from the ability to connect multiple locations with a secure point-to-point connection. This allows them to securely share data, bandwidth, and improves communications.
